Muhammed Zafar Iqbal was born on 23 December 1952 in Sylhet, Bangladesh. He is a younger brother of a Humayun Ahmed, who was a great writer and filmmaker. His elder brother Humayun Ahmed was a most popular Bengali writer ever.His younger brother, Ahsan Habib, is a cartoonist who is serving as the editor of the satirical magazine, Unmad.

Personal life of Muhammed Zafar Iqbal:

His father name is Faizur Rahman Ahmed. He was a police officer who was killed by the time of Liberation War of Bangladesh. His mother was Ayesha Akhter Khatun. Zafar Iqbal spent his childhood in different parts of Bangladesh because his father doing a Govt job.

He has three sisters – Sufia Haider, Momtaz Shahid and Rukhsana Ahmed. He passed the SSC from Bogra Zilla School in 1968 and HSC in 1970. Later He earned his bachelor’s in physics from Dhaka University 1976. He done his Ph.D from university of Washington. After completing his PhD degree, he worked as a post-doctoral researcher at Caltech. He won Rotary SEED Award for his tremendous contribution in the field education.

He started writing stories at a very early age. He wrote his first short story at the age of seven. He married Yasmeen Haque in 1978. She is a Dean of the Life Science Department and Professor of the Department of Physics at SUST. Their son Nabil Iqbal working as a scientist at Durham University.

He mainly writes for teens and young readers. He basically known for his fictional books but He write some non-fiction books on physics and mathematics. Some of his books name are Amar Bondhu Rashed, Ami Topu, Ikarus, Haat Kata Robin, Sayra Scientist, Gramer Nam Kakon Dubi, etc. Muhammed Zafar Iqbal also write for storyline for Dhaka comic. He write news columns regularly.
